Designed and implemented a routine for the XRef scanner, with silent purge, audit, proxy detection, and all XRefs have a bending option.

Pre Convesrsion - AutoBinding.
Before conversion starts all xrefs should be bonded with main drawings. AutoBinding solves the missing xrefs problem with native Autodesk showstoppers.
The auto-binding routine scans main drawings and xrefs nested on any level for detecting proxy objects.
Optionally the binding provides the purge and audit. It can also solve missed xrefs.
All xref scanning, fixing and binding can be done in silent mode - without opening xref drawings.

Main points of conversion: The conversion routine converts layers to layers, blocks to blocks, save and restore conversion settings per project or per file. Each drawing remembers its settings. Overlay options as an additional option.

Smart Undo
Different parts of the original drawing could be converted consequently, separately or from different drawings to one destination drawing. It is very difficult to start conversion from scratch, this is a possibility if an error occurs in a single step. Smart Undo allows eliminating any step or phase of conversion and to convert this part again.
